British Malaya Broadcasting Corporation Private commercial radio broadcasting company. Radio broadcasting in Malaya started as an experimental project in the 1920s. It was only in 1936 that Singapore launched its first radio station, with a regular service broadcast from Caldecott Hill by a private commercial company, the British Malaya Broadcasting Corporation, which had been set up in 1935.

The company was short- lived, with the British colonial authorities taking it over in 1940 and, in April 1941, transferring control to a quasi- government organization, the Malayan Broadcasting Corporation.
