Church of St Teresa Officially blessed and opened on 7 April 1929, this church was built by French missionary Emile Mariette and local priest Stephen Lee for Catholics living around the harbour, near the railway station and in Chinatown. It served Chinese, Indian and Eurasian congregations. With the development of the port around Keppel Harbour in the 1960s and 1970s, Catholic families living nearby were relocated to other towns. The boundaries of the parish were then extended to Clementi and Jurong. The Church of St Teresa maintains a club for Catholic seafarers— the Stella Maris Catholic Seamen’s Mission.
