Das, Kay (1946– ) Scientist. As research and development director of semi- conductor company STMicroelectronics Asia Pacific, Kay Das set up joint R&D programmes with Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Polytechnic and other local research institutes, to enhance Singapore’s edge in chip- making. He also initiated the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) R&D Centre in Singapore, which worked in the areas of audio, video and wireless. Das was a founding member of the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), where he helped initiate development activities in GSM (global system for mobile communication) and video systems. He was awarded the 2004 National Science and Technology Medal.
