Eurasian Association Few records detailing the early history of this association still exist, but it appears that it was formed in 1919 from the Eurasian Literary Association, which had been set up a year earlier. Its primary objectives were to promote the political, economic, social, moral, physical and intellectual advancement of all Eurasian subjects in the British Empire; to promote among its members an active interest in the affairs of Malaya; and generally to look after the interests of all Eurasians in the empire. After separation from Malaysia, the objectives of the association began to reflect the importance of Singapore, rather than the United Kingdom, to Eurasians.

Education has always been accorded a high priority by the association, and many of its efforts have gone into helping the less fortunate. Tuition classes in Mandarin were instigated in 1994 with assistance from the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC). Malay classes were started in 1997.

The association’s welfare programmes are aimed at five different groups: the elderly; female- headed households; families in which a member is physically or mentally disabled or ill; children of school age who are not in school; and individuals who have health problems.
