Goei, Glen (1963– ) Actor and director. Glen Goei was educated at Anglo- Chinese School, Cambridge University (where he graduated with a degree in history) and Mountview Theatre School in London (1988). He made a name for himself in the London theatre scene, co- starring with Anthony Hopkins in the West End production of David Henry Hwang’s M Butterfly, and receiving a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer (1990). Goei has also directed Madame Mao’s Memories; Porcelain (which received the London Fringe Awards for Best Play and Best Production); The Magic Fundoshi (Times Award for Best Comedy, 1993); Three Japanese Women; and Suzy Wrong: Human Cannon.
In Singapore, his works included Into the Woods (1994); Kampong Amber (Singapore Arts Festival, 1994); and Land of a Thousand Dreams (1995). Goei also directed and produced the feature film Forever Fever (1994).
In 1991– 98, Goei founded and ran Mu- Lan Arts in London, after which he became associate artistic director of the theatre company W!ld Rice. Besides acting and directing, Goei is also a major events choreographer. He was the creative director of the National Day parades from 2003– 05.
