Great Eastern Holdings Insurance group. Established in 1908, Great Eastern has $40 billion in assets and 2.6 million policyholders in Singapore and Malaysia. It is the only life insurance company to be listed on the Singapore Exchange, and is the largest insurance company in Southeast Asia in terms of assets and market capitalization. The company has 20,000 agents, and covers life, personal accident and health insurance, and annuity plans to individuals. It also provides loans, investment management and other related services. Its subsidiary, Lion Capital Management, is one of the largest asset management companies in Southeast Asia, with assets under management of $30 billion.
Headquartered in Singapore, Great Eastern has 24 branches in Malaysia, with subsidiary companies and representative offices in China, Indonesia, Brunei, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In August 2005, Great Eastern and Chongqing Land Properties Group set up a joint- venture life insurance company named Great Eastern Life Assurance (China) Co. Ltd, to lead the group’s expansion plans into the rest of China. Great Eastern is a subsidiary of OCBC Bank. Great Eastern Holdings reported a net profit of $373 million in the financial year 2005.
