Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts Successor of the Ministry of Culture set up in 1959, headed by Culture Minister S. Rajaratnam. When the Ministry of Culture was dissolved in 1985, its functions were split between two other ministries; then in 1990, they were reunited to form the new Ministry of Information and the Arts (MITA) with George Yeo as acting minister and subsequently minister. In 2001, the communication technology function, previously under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, came under MITA. The expanded ministry was renamed the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts but retained the acronym MITA until 2004, when it became MICA. Its headquarters are housed in the MICA Building.

MICA has a number of statutory boards under its charge: the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore; the Media Development Authority; the National Arts Council; the National Heritage Board; the National Library Board (see public libraries); and the Preservation of Monuments Board.
