Pennefather, Percy (1923– 1975) Sportsman. Percy Pennefather was a student at St Joseph’s Institution and member of one of Singapore’s most illustrious sporting families. He played cricket, badminton and tennis, but it was in hockey that he made his name. Pennefather made his debut on the national hockey team at right- half in 1947. Nine years later, he moved permanently to centre- forward. Pennefather played in the 1956 Olympic Games, where Singapore finished eighth.

Pennefather scored 290 goals in his 110 international caps for Singapore. He retired at age 38, but continued with club hockey, and eventually became a coach and administrator. He was the national coach for the pre- Olympic tournament in 1967. In 1972, he became president of the Singapore Hockey Association.
