Ren Ci Hospital and Medicare Centre Welfare organization. Established in 1994 by the Foo Hai Ch’an (Buddhist) Monastery, the centre provides medical, nursing and rehabilitative care for people suffering from severe physical disabilities or long- term illnesses. Most of its patients are underprivileged. The centre has two facilities, one in Hougang and one in Moulmein.
The hospital raises funds to subsidize the cost of care. The hospital’s chief executive officer, Venerable Shi Ming Yi, has taken part in fund- raising shows on television.
The new Ren Ci Hospital, scheduled for completion in 2008, will have 277 beds, outpatient clinics, laboratories and a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic. It will be located at Irrawaddy Road.
