Shangri- La Hotel Luxury hotel. Built in 1971, the name ‘Shangri- la’ was inspired by James Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon. The hotel’s landscaped grounds cover 6 ha and contain over 130,000 plant varieties, reflecting Singapore’s ‘Garden City’ identity. The hotel has hosted numerous visiting heads of state and government, international conferences and society weddings.

From this first property, Shangri- La Hotels and Resorts has grown into the largest Asian- based deluxe hotel group, with properties in many other Asian and Middle Eastern locations. The founder of the group is Malaysian entrepreneur, Robert Kuok.
